In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or element of a new recording. Have you heard of this before? Perhaps you've even heard a sample but didn't realise what it was!
Submit your songs below which have used samples. Anyone sharing a good example will have their post shared on this website, on twitter AND will receive a commendation.
Who will take the challenge of being awesome?

I had such a wonderful lunchtime today, hosting the second lunchtime concert of the year (the last was back in October).
We started with Din in Year 7 on the drums while Shane (Year 10), Mr Greenwood, Mr Hood and I (Mr T) backed him up performing Green Day's Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. Then Tamzid (Year 10) treated us to a beautiful performance of I Giorni by Ludovico Einaudi. Up next were "The Band With No Name" with Hazera (Year 10) drumming, Shamiul (Year 8) playing the guitar and Al-Amin (Year 8) on the keyboards running through their arrangement of See You Again by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth (with me guesting on the bass). Then My-Anh (Year 8) played the keyboard, Savera (Year 8) played drums and Fawziah (Year 8) sang, with Mr Greenwood on the guitar. They ran through an energetic performance of Youngblood by 5 Seconds Of Summer (or "5SOS" as I'm led to believe the 'cool kids' would say). Finally we were treated to a vocal performance of Stay (Rhianna) by Hope (Year 7). There was a large and supportive audience made up of staff and students. I thank, and appreciate them all giving up their lunchtime to support our young musicians. I hope everyone has a lovely half term! Mr Tarbard So I realised that the last blog post was in 2016. We're now in 2019. Should updating this blog be a new years resolution?!
Anyway, we're almost halfway through the academic year. We've already had a great lunchtime concert in October featuring performances from 2 bands created in our new Year 9 GCSE class, Mushlima singing solo, Tamzid performing a piano solo and finishing with TBK rocking the room! Then we finished the term with a fantastic Christmas Concert!! Alfie and Hazera joined myself, Mr Greenwood and Mr Hood to play some Christmas songs, then the concert consisted of JJTS playing Alan Walker's Faded, Taniya and Samia working the crowd with their rendition of a great Justin Bieber track (complete with choreography), Maddy&Mushlima sang an R'n'B classic which Mr Greenwood knew (.....honestly!), and TBK finished in style by playing through Smells Like Teen Spirit. We've got our next lunchtime concert in 2 weeks and I can't wait!!!! Especially as it will also be time for half term!! Mr T Today we had our first performance opportunity of the year with a lunchtime concert.
We started with Hazera showing off her growing drumming skills by playing the drum part from Justin Bieber's Sorry. Then Tyler showed off his guitar playing, he has really worked hard on his finger picking technique recently. We then had Lana & Kaitlin (or is that Nails & Knuckles?!) singing One Dance before Shane treated us to a medley of guitar riffs he had learnt. And how can we forget the excellent presenting from Shueb and Saimon?! Well done you two!! Congratulations to all the performers, plus it was lovely to have an appreciative audience for them to entertain. I look forward to seeing more performances as part of LPS Got Talent!! Mr T
On the file above there is an Ableton Push project ready to go. On there you will find a beat, bassline and chords. All of the parts you can change yourself or add new ideas over the top!
The great people over at Ableton have donated 10 Ableton Push units to the music department! We will start using them in Production Club from next week (13/07/2016). What is Ableton? Ableton is easily the coolest recording/live software in the world. Everyone from Grimes to Drake uses it to perform live and write tracks. What is an Ableton Push? 'Push is an instrument that puts everything you need to make music in one place—at your fingertips.' Ableton lets you upload ANY sound onto to the Push making any genre possible. You don't need to be an amazing keyboard player, guitar player, drummer or singer you just need to have an idea and the drive to pursue it. If you want to create a beat, a whole song or make a remix then come to production club and try it out! How will we use Push in production club? We will start with the basics: * Learning how to load the sounds via Ableton. * Learning how to make our own unique beats. * Learning how to to use the step sequencer. Once we have mastered the basics you can start making full songs and recording your very own Push videos! Last week was the final of Langdon Park School's Got Talent....and my was it a great show!
I really enjoyed all the performances, but special congratulations to Honor&Naomi for winning the Yr7&8 catagory (with their rousing dance to Sax by Fleur East) and to Young Glory for winning the Yr9&10 catagory (with their rocking version of Molly's Chambers by Kings Of Leon). Today we had a lunchtime concert in Music 1 where we were treated to four solo singers (singing songs by Sam Smith, Adele, One Direction and Dove Cameron), one vocal duo (singing a Charlie Puth song) and a piano performance (of the latest 007 song). The small, but supportive audience enjoyed the intimate nature of the gathering and we hope to have more of these as the year goes on. Mr T So I'm a bit slow here (almost a week!) but we had the semi final on Wednesday of last week....and the competition was BIG!!!!
We saw some excellent band performances, some brilliant dancing and some awesome singing (not forgetting the great comedy and hosting from Josh and Saimon!!!). Yesterday we had Year 9, 10 and 11, today we had Year 7 and 8. I must say, I was blown away by the talent, skill and confidence we saw from our performers. Obviously I knew some of the musical acts we were going to see, but it was great seeing them perform to a new audience. But in addition to that it was great to see some excellent dancing from pupils across the year groups. I applaud EVERYONE for your great effort and performances, and MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to all who made it through to the semi-final!!! Remember to check the board to see if you've made it through and if you have been successful, make sure you go and speak to your mentor! Mr T |
